Deepshikha Nagpal Confirms the News with Heartfelt Message

Actress Deepshikha Nagpal, a friend and co-actor of Mukul Dev, originally broke the sad news on social media. She uploaded an old photo of herself and Mukul Dev onto her Instagram Stories with the words, "Can't believe this. RIP."

Later on, the actress posted a social media post about the same on her Instagram handle captioning it, "I can’t believe you are gone muks. What do I say??? With the heavy heart I can say may his soul rest in peace what a beautiful soul amazing actor and a wonderful friendyou will be missed I will miss your voice notes . May god give strength to his family."

Deepshikha, who worked with Mukul in Teri Bhabhi Hai Pagle and the web series Maya 3, expressed her sorrow while speaking to IANS. She said, "And we were more than that—we were friends. We had this group, we used to chat on the (phone) group. We always updated each other. But this time, he never said anything—that he's not well or anything. It is unbelievable."

She continued, "I have no words. The whole world knows about it. It's so shocking. I still can't believe it. I still feel it must be fake news. And sometimes it's fake news. I woke up with this. And I called on his phone only. Thinking he'll pick up."

Deepshikha added with emotion, "Nobody knows the reason behind his sudden death. We just heard that he was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). I can't tell because I don't know how far it's true. So no point in spreading rumors, you know. The worst thing is he's no more. And it's the biggest loss for the industry. Because he's an amazing actor, an amazing human being. Because of my busy schedule and his things, we couldn't meet. But we knew that he's here—with this 'let's meet' thing. But I had no clue that he's not well. It's just not right."

A Career Spanning Television, Cinema, and Reality Shows

Mukul Dev started in the world of entertainment in television. He debuted as an actor in 1996 with the serial Mumkin where he portrayed Vijay Pandey. He received instant recognition for his role which led to roles in other television shows including Doordarshan’s Ek Se Badh Kar Ek, which was a popular countdown comedy show for Bollywood. He had the charisma and the persona of a host which meant he was a good fit to host the 1st season of Fear Factor India and connected with the audience as a host much like he did prior as an actor performer.

Film Debut and Bollywood Breakthrough

Mukul moved to cinema with Dastak, where he essayed ACP Rohit Malhotra. The film also marked the acting entry of erstwhile Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. He rose to prominence for his performances in typical commercial fare like Son of Sardaar, R. Rajkumar, and Jai Ho, where his work was noticeable regardless of multi-starrer supporting casts.

His latest on-screen appearance was in the Hindi movie Anth The End.

From a Pilot's Cockpit to the Silver Screen

A Punjabi by birth in New Delhi, Mukul Dev had close family roots in a village around Jalandhar. His father, Hari Dev, was an Assistant Commissioner of Police and was responsible for exposing young Mukul to Afghan culture. Consequently, Mukul learned to speak Pashto and Persian fluently, a rare talent that spoke for his broad interests.

Interestingly, Mukul was a trained pilot too. He had learned aviation at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi before pursuing the world of acting. His love for performance was there early on though.

First Spotlight: A Michael Jackson Act on Doordarshan

Mukul's introduction to public performance was when he was in Class 8 when he impersonated Michael Jackson at a dance show promoted by Doordarshan. The show earned him his first paycheque and sowed the seeds of an entertainment-based future.

Mukul Dev was also Rahul Dev's younger brother, a popular actor. Though belonging to a star family, Mukul made a niche for himself with a series of varied roles across genres, languages, and platforms.
