7. Ceremonial Marriage of Crops (Diyari) (Chhattisgarh)

In the tribal heartland of Chhattisgarh, particularly the Bastar region, the festival takes on a flavour tied to agriculture and the harvest season.

The Festival: Known locally as Diyari or Govardhan Puja, the celebration includes a unique ritual where tribal communities conduct a ceremonial 'marriage' of their crops in the fields with an idol of Lord Narayana (Vishnu).
The Practice: This is an expression of gratitude for a bountiful harvest and is followed by the traditional practice of carefully stockpiling and worshipping the harvested food grain, which is essential to their way of life.
