Veteran Marathon Runner Fauja Singh died on July 14, 2025 (Monday) in a road accident. It is reportedly being seen as a hit-and-run case. Fauja Singh was crossing the road near his village, Beas near Adampur in Jalandhar district when he got hit by an unidentified vehicle.

As per the information received, the incident occurred in the afternoon around 3:30 pm. His family, talking about this, mentioned, that he was out for walk on the national highway and a vehicle owner hit him, speeding off.

Immediately after the incident took place, Fauja Singh was taken to Shrimann Hospital in Jalandhar. However, he was confirmed dead.

While talking to the media persons, Jalandhar Rural SSP Harvinder Singh said, "Though the accident took place around 3:30 pm when Fauja Singh was walking to a dhaba owned by the family on Bhogpur Road, we were sounded only after his demise."

He further added that the officials are investigating to find the accused. He said, "We are still in the process of procuring CCTV footage from the area to nab the accused." The FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against the accused.

Nation Mourns demise of Fauja Singh

After the information came ahead of the death of Legendary Athlete, Fauja Singh, pubic along with the political leaders mourned the loss.

The Prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, taking to his 'X' account expressed the contribution of Fauja Singh towards inspiring the youth of India. He further extended the condolences, wrote -

"He was an exceptional athlete with incredible determination. Pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and countless admirers around the world."

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann through his words mourned the loss of veteran athlete, extended condolences to his family. He wrote-

"The legendary marathon runner Fauja Singh Ji, who brought glory to the Sikh community across the world through his long-distance running, will forever live on in our hearts and memories.

Who was Fauja Singh?

Fauja Singh, known as the “Turbaned Tornado,” was a legendary long-distance runner who gained global recognition for his incredible athletic achievements in old age. He was born in 1911 in Punjab, India, is a resident of Village Beas of Jalandhar.

He began running at the age of 89, completed his first marathon at 89. He became the world’s oldest marathon runner, finishing the Toronto Waterfront Marathon at the age of 100. Over the next 13 years, he ran nine full marathons including; London, Toronto, and New York. His determination, discipline made him a global icon.

Fauja Singh was a global icon.
The embodiment of Chardi Kala - "Rising Spirits".

At age 93 he completed a full marathon.

He went on to set world records, sign deals with global brands like Adidas and have children’s books published about him.
