Grenade Attacker in Jalandhar

Punjab Police made a significant arrest of Indian Army soldier Sukhcharan Singh after they linked him to training the main suspect responsible for the grenade assault on YouTuber Rozer Sandhu's Jalandhar house. The 30-year-old military man Sukhcharan Singh hails from Muktsar district and joined the Army in 2015 as a recruit to the 3rd Sikh Light Infantry stationed in Jammu & Kashmir.

Law enforcement authorities believe the incident happened on March 16, as someone launched a grenade towards the house of YouTuber Rozer Sandhu. The grenade failed to detonate, which prevented both casualties among people and property destruction. Through video calls, Singh provided training to the attacker, Hardik Kamboj, about grenade pin extraction. During his instruction, Kamboj made a mistake that prevented the grenade from detonating.

Jalandhar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)Harvinder Singh Virk stated, "Sukhcharan and Hardik had come in touch with each other through social media. Hardik revealed that Sukhcharan had provided training on removing the grenade pin via video calls."

The investigation revealed a link between the attacker, Shahzad Bhatti, who claimed credit for the assault after blaming the YouTuber for insulting Islam through his videos. The attack was planned by Bhatti together with Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar, who is currently wanted for the Baba Siddiqui murder case.

After the incident, Bhatti posted a video on his Instagram page that supposedly depicted Kamboj learning grenade safety procedures at the crime location. The grenade failed to explode because of incorrect manipulation at the crime scene.

So far, nine people have been arrested in relation to the case, with nine others, including Akhtar and Bhatti, having been listed in the probe. The Army has been made aware of Singh's role, and he has been sent to five-day police custody.

This is one of a series of recent acts of violence in Punjab, including a grenade blast at BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia's residence in Jalandhar on April 8 and a blast outside a temple in Amritsar last month. Central agencies such as the National Investigation Agency are monitoring the situation closely.

The case is of particular concern due to the increasing levels of the misuse of social media sites for radicalization and training, as well as for the criminal involvement of current members of the military. The authorities are still investigating how widespread the network is and how it relates to cross-border aspects.
