Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a two-day visit to Bihar and Odisha, marking a crucial push for infrastructure development, socio-economic upliftment, and a clear articulation of future vision for both states.

The tour, encompassing inaugurations, foundation stone laying ceremonies, and public addresses, underscores the government's continued focus on regional growth and is also strategically timed with the first anniversary of the BJP government in Odisha.

Bihar: Connectivity and Urban Infrastructure

The Prime Minister's first stop was Siwan, Bihar, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects exceeding ₹5,700 crore. The agenda in Bihar was heavily centered on enhancing connectivity and improving urban amenities.

Inauguration of the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line project, valued at over ₹400 crore, along with the flagging off of a new train service on this route. This aims to significantly improve rail connectivity in the region. Dedication of six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the ambitious Namami Gange project, worth over ₹1,800 crore, to bolster sanitation efforts and river rejuvenation. Foundation stones were also laid for additional water supply, sanitation, and STP projects worth over ₹3,000 crore.

PM also released the first installment to over 53,600 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), along with a symbolic "Grih Pravesh" ceremony for 6,600 completed houses. Furthermore, the foundation stone was laid for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity, aimed at modernizing power infrastructure in the state.

In his public address in Siwan, PM Modi emphasized that these projects are not just about infrastructure but about transforming the lives of the people and bringing "a new Bihar NDA is creating." He also took the opportunity to critique past administrations, asserting that while "the 'jungle raj' people stalled the development engine of Bihar," now a "Bihar-made engine will power an African train," highlighting a new era of progress.

Odisha: A Vision for 2036 and 2047

Later in the day, PM Modi arrived in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to commemorate the first anniversary of the state's maiden BJP government. Here, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a vast array of development projects worth over ₹18,600 crore.

Here, he launched new train services that will extend rail connectivity to the Boudh district for the first time, integrating it into the national railway network. Additionally, 100 electric buses were flagged off under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system to promote sustainable urban mobility.

Projects like drinking water, irrigation, agricultural infrastructure, healthcare, rural roads and bridges, and national highway expansion are also on the agenda on this visit. A major highlight of the visit was the unveiling of the "Odisha Vision Document." This forward-looking roadmap outlines the state's developmental goals leading up to 2036, when Odisha marks 100 years as a linguistic state, and 2047, when India completes a century of independence. This document is expected to provide a clear pathway for the state's growth trajectory.

The Launch of the 'Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana,' a scheme to transform the birthplaces of notable Odia personalities into living heritage sites with museums, libraries, statues, and interpretation centers, is also an important part of this visit. The Prime Minister also felicitated over 16.50 lakh 'Lakhpati Didis,' celebrating women's empowerment initiatives in the state.

The two-day tour culminates on June 21st, with PM Modi leading the national celebrations of the 11th International Day of Yoga from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
