Bikram Singh Majithia, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former President of Punjab on Tuesday reached to Punjab and Haryana High Court following his arrest on June 25 under the Disproportionate Assets case.

In the petition filed, he termed his arrest "illegal" and mentioned that he is being targeted for a political agenda. He mentioned that the FIR registered against him is an act of political witch-hunting and vendetta initiated by the present political dispensation.

"The said FIR is a result of political witch-hunting and vendetta, initiated by the present political dispension with the sole object of maligning and harassing the Petitioner who has been a vocal critic and political opponent," says the petition.

By committing such acts, the ruling government aims to malign and harass him publicly, he added. The petition has been filed through advocates Sartej Singh Narula, Damanbir Singh Sobti and Arshdeep Singh Cheema.

The petition highlighted the violations that has been initiated by the authorities in Majithia's arrest. It listed:

Arrest was carried out in gross violation of settled legal procedures
Majithia was kept in "illegal custody for over two hours" prior to official arrest

Majithia reportedly was kept in custody from 9:00 am to 11:20 am prior to his arrest. 'This violates Article 22(2) of the constitution and Section 187 of the BNSS which speaks of production before magistrate within 24 hours,' highlights the petition.

A day after arrest, on June 26, Bikram Majithia has remanded to seven days custody till July 2 by a Mohali court in connection with an alleged case of laundering INR 540 crore of drug money. The petition also laid stress on the base of remand. It added that Remand Order was "manifestly perverse" and "non-speaking" having non compliance with Punjab and High Court.

"The remand application filed by the Investigating Agency lacked any concrete or urgent investigative ground, " says the petition filed by Majithia.

VB restricts MLA Ganieve Kaur to enter her office

Punjab State Vigilance Bureau Team on Tuesday pushed raid at Majithia's office in Amritsar's Majitha Assembly constituency. At around 3 pm, vigilance team arrived at Majithia's office and the investigation was carried out for around an hour and half.

While the officials reachedt office, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, wife of Bikram Majithia was not allowed to enter her place. While talking to media persons, she added, "I am not being allowed to enter my office, There is a law and order issue in the state.

"There are many other issues in the state, but the state government just focus on Bikram Singh Majithia. They are scared of him as he is the only person who exposes them," said MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia.

BJP protects Bikram Majithia, says AAP Minister

Aman Arora, President and Cabinet Minister of Aam Aadmi Party stressed on the matter where Majithia is being shielded by the Central Government. While taking the matter to his 'X' account, he noted -

"Seems, he will soon be joining BJP, and in return, they're shielding him from the drug case. Punjab Police have been in Delhi since morning, ready to raid key locations, but Delhi Police, under BJP's control, blocking their every move."

He reportedly mentioned that NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau) has demanded the documents related to the FIR. And, this is an act of support to Majithia by BJP. He further added that this reveals BJP's true intent of protecting drug traders, instead of removing them.
