Manish Sisodia: AAP’s Trusted Lieutenant Leading in Jangpura Amidst Controversy

As the counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 progresses, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is posing a formidable challenge to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). However, early trends indicate that AAPs candidate from Jangpura, Manish Sisodia, is leading against BJPs Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Congress Farhad Suri.

Manish Sisodia, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, previously won the Patparganj constituency in three consecutive elections2013, 2015, and 2020. However, this year, he contested from Jangpura, a strategic move by AAP as they sought to consolidate their voter base amid political turbulence.

Political Journey and Challenges

A high-profile politician and a key strategist for AAP, Sisodia has been instrumental in expanding the partys footprint beyond Delhi, particularly in Punjab, where AAP secured a massive victory in 2022. Despite his significant contributions, his political career took a hit in February last year when he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) overalleged corruptionin Delhis liquor policy. The case has been a source of political controversy, with Sisodia and AAP maintaining that the arrest was politically motivated, a charge denied by the BJP.

Sisodias critics cite the allegations to question his credibility, particularly because AAP built its foundation on an anti-corruption movement. However, AAP has staunchly defended him, challenging his arrest in the Supreme Court and alleging that the BJP is using federal agencies to target political opponents.

The Man Behind Delhis Education Reforms

Before entering politics, Sisodia was a journalist. His entry into activism came in the early 2000s when he joined Arvind Kejriwal in advocating for the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The duo later played a key role in Anna Hazares 2011 anti-corruption movement, which eventually led to the formation of AAP.

As Delhis Education Minister, Sisodia spearheaded a radical transformation of the capitals public school system. Under his leadership, the AAP government invested heavily in infrastructure, built new classrooms, improved sanitation facilities, and introduced innovative teaching methods. Delhis government schools, once struggling, became models of excellence, even garnering international recognition.

Election Battle in Jangpura

As Sisodia leads in Jangpura, his victory would not only be a personal redemption but also a crucial win for AAP in an election where the party is facing stiff competition. Exit polls have predicted a strong showing for the BJP, making every seat critical for AAPs survival in Delhis political landscape.
