The New York Times unveiled its list of the best 100 restaurants in New York City where Semma, an Indian restaurant, has topped the list..

The top ten restaurants according to their ranks are as follows-

Atmox, NoMad (Korean, Tasting)
Le Bernardin, Midtown (French, Seafood, Tasting)
Kabawa, East Village (Caribbean, Tasting Menu)
Ha's Snack Bar, Lower East Side (French, Vietnamese, Wine Bar)
King, South Village (Mediterranean)
Penny, East Village (Seafood, French)
Sushi Sho, Midtown (Sushi Omakase)
Szechuan Mountain House, East Village (Chinese)
Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi , Upper West Side (American, Caribbean, Creole)

And, among the 90 others, 2 more Indian restaurants are listed that are Bungalow and Dhamaka which are loacted at East Village and Lower East Side respectively.

Semma's winning expression

Having got the title of No. 1 restaurant in New York, Semma expressed the gratefulness towards New York city on trusting them. The restaurant shared a post on their Instagram account and extended thanks to the jury; Priya Krishna, Melissa Clark and Brian Gallagher

In this honor, it mentioned that Semma being no. 1 restaurant in New York City, is a sign that the things are truly changing. Referring to the achievement as 'historic,.' it added

"Semma isn’t just about Indian food, it’s about what happens when a cuisine, any cuisine, speaks in its own voice, untranslated and unafraid.⁠"

Notably, Semma dedicated the win to every chef of the restaurant and every dish that opens up something new.

To be at the top of this list is a milestone for a significant change. For us, for you, and for what's to come," wrote Semma.

Indian restaurant Semma doing wonders in New York

Semma is restaurant located in Greenwich Village which is led by Chef Vijay Kumar of Tamil Nadu. He is redefining Indian cuisine in New York City. The restaurant having focus on lesser-known dishes from South India offers bold flavors with the use of ingredients like chiles, coconut, and curry leaves.

As it has bagged the top rank in New York Times list, the food critic Priya Krishna mentioned that Semma has transformed the Indian dining landscape in the city. Calling Dosa its specialty, she added, "known for its standout dosa crisp, fermented, and topped with ghee and spicy gunpowder, Semma continues to feel innovative and fresh four years after opening."

This recognition is not just the one for restaurant, however, it holds several other achievements as well. Recently, it got Michelin star for the third time. While, there are many other Indian restaurants as well in the city but Semma is the only one to have this recognition.
