Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Warsaw on Wednesday to begin his two-nation tour of Poland and Ukraine. Prior to leaving India, Modi expressed Indias hope for a swift restoration of peace and stability to the region. He also highlighted Indias role as a friend and partner. 

Modi on 21 August visited Poland and will head to Ukraine on 23 August. This visit also marks the first visit to Poland by an Indian Prime Minister in 45 years.  

PM Modis Visit to Poland 

Modis visit to Poland focuses on high-level security and trade talks, before travelling to Ukraine. Ukraine is currently at war with Indias vital ally, Russia.  

Following his recent visit to Moscow, where he met and embraced President Putin, Modi was highly criticized by Ukraine. Modi has stressed the importance of a peaceful settlement to the conflict but has chosen not to denounce Russia.  

Meanwhile, Poland, a member of the EU and NATO, gives significant defense, political and humanitarian support to Ukraine. Prior to his visit, Modi also emphasized Polands role as a key economic partner for India in Central Europe.

PM Modi also interacted with the members of the vibrant Indian community in Poland, during his two-day visit.  

Major Highlights from the visit 

Social Security Agreement- PM Modi announced that, an agreement on social security has been finalized between Warsaw and New Delhi. It focuses on helping the Indian diaspora (Indians who are residing in different regions).

Economic Forecast- Modi said in Warsaw that global agencies see Indias bright future, with expectations that it will soon overtake the United Stated as the 3^rd largest economy in the world. 

Appeal for Peace- Modi restated Indias stance of supporting peace during times of global conflict, without directly mentioning the ongoing crisis between Russia-Ukraine.

Kabaddi Success- Modi highlighted Polands adoption of the Indian sport Kabaddi, mentioning the match where Poland defeated Holland in the 2019 European Championships.  

At last, Modi expressed confidence that his trip to Warsaw and Kyiv would strengthen the existing relationships between the two nations. It will lead to the foundation of stronger and dynamic relations in the future.
