Managed through a partnership involving five major space agencies—the United States’ NASA, Russia’s Roscosmos, the European Space Agency (ESA), Japan’s JAXA, and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA)—the ISS represents collaboration among 15 countries. Design, Assembly, and Capabilities

Construction of the ISS began in 1998 and involved over a decade of meticulous planning and cooperation. More than 30 missions, including contributions from the U.S. Space Shuttle and Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets, were required to deliver its various modules and components.

The ISS is made up of pressurized modules for crew living and research, external trusses for structural support, solar arrays to generate power, and multiple docking ports for visiting spacecraft.

Spanning the length of a football field and weighing around 420 tons, the station provides living quarters and laboratories for up to seven astronauts. It includes facilities for advanced scientific research in disciplines such as biology, physics, astronomy, meteorology, and materials science. Its modular design allows for continuous upgrades and improvements, making the ISS one of the most sophisticated space habitats ever created.

Research and Scientific Contributions
