Who will be the Next Party President of BJP, the Largest Political Party of the World?

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) commenced the process for its organizational elections, paving the way for the selection of a new party president. This significant step comes after the BJPs National Executive Committee (NEC) represents a pivotal force in the partys political trajectory.
The BJP appointed K. Laxman as the National Returning Officer to manage the elections. Party vice-president Rekha Verma and MPs Sambit Patra and Naresh Bansal, who will serve as co-returning officers. Laxman, who held the position of the party president of the OBC Morcha since 2020, is also a member of the Central Election Committee (CEC), responsible for making crucial electoral decisions. The team will outline the election process according to the partys constitution and appoint state-level election officers.
The current president of the party, J.P. Nadda is in his term with a second extension. While he has assumed extra duties as a Union Minister, the transition to a new leadership is vital as the party prepares for upcoming electoral challenges. This move is considered timely, especially after a successful membership campaign that brought in over 9 crore new members for the BJP.
Sources within the BJP indicate that the election process for a new party president is expected to begin tentatively by early December. However, if there are any setbacks, the elections could be postponed until early next year, depending on the completion of organizational elections in at least half of the states. This schedule coincides with the end of the second phase of the partys active membership campaign.
Nadda has been at the helm since January 2020, and his prolonged-term is intended to facilitate a smoother leadership transition. According to the partys constitution, the party president generally serves a three-year term and is usually elected by consensus.
The upcoming leadership transition is deemed crucial for sustaining the BJPs momentum and addressing future challenges.
The election will not only set the stage for the partys future direction but also bolster its organizational strength in preparation for the critical electoral battles in 2025 and thereafter.

Following the completion of membership drives, elections will take place at various levels. The various levels include block, district, and state, culminating in the election of the party president. Specifically, the membership drive in Maharashtra and Jharkhand is scheduled to start once the assembly elections wrap up by November 23. Meanwhile, the membership drives in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana will begin soon after their respective elections.
As the debate over the new party president intensifies, various names are being discussed within BJP circles. Leading candidates include Vinod Tawde, Devendra Fadnavis, Bhupendra Yadav, Sanjay Joshi, Sudha Verma, Arun Singh, and Sunil Bansal. Notably, party insiders suggest that this time, the selection for the new party president may be from OBCs, SCs, or women. This selection will send a strong message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJPs commencement of organizational elections marks a pivotal leadership transition. As the party prepares for significant electoral contests ahead, the upcoming elections will not only influence its direction. It also strengthens its organizational framework ensuring it remains a formidable force in Indian politics.
