Pak Violates Ceasefire at LoC in Poonch, Indian Army Retaliates
Share
In a significant breach of the ceasefire agreement, Pakistan violated the truce along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district. The Indian Army confirmed this violation, marking the first official acknowledgment of such an incident recently. In response to the Pakistani aggression, the Indian Army launched a strong counteroffensive, resulting in heavy casualties on the Pakistani side. Similar ceasefire violations were reported earlier this year in the Krishna Ghati sector, where sporadic exchanges of fire have been occurring.
On Tuesday, the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by Pakistani troops and militants in the Krishna Ghati area of the Poonch district. According to sources, a group of four to five infiltrators, reportedly belonging to the Pakistan Army, was neutralized in the operation. However, no official confirmation regarding the exact number of casualties has been provided.
The Pakistani soldiers and infiltrators initiated unprovoked firing, forcing the Indian Army to retaliate. The exchange of gunfire persisted intermittently throughout the day. Despite the intense situation, Indian defense sources confirmed that there was no loss of life or damage to property on the Indian side. The Indian Army remains on high alert and fully deployed in the Krishna Ghati region to prevent any further infiltration attempts.
Over the past two months, there has been a noticeable escalation in ceasefire violations along the LoC, particularly in the southern Pir Panjal region. Reports suggest an increase in sniping incidents, cross-border firing, and infiltration attempts by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT). The Indian Army has been responding swiftly and effectively to these provocations, ensuring that any attempts to destabilize the region are countered with decisive force. Despite India’s efforts to address the situation diplomatically, Pakistan has continued to violate the ceasefire agreement, leading to heightened tensions along the border.
Army sources indicate that Pakistani forces, in collaboration with militant groups, have made several unsuccessful attempts to breach the LoC in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir. In early February, Pakistani troops resorted to small-arms fire and detonated explosives along the border, prompting a strong and immediate retaliatory response from the Indian Army. Although India has raised the issue with Pakistani authorities, ceasefire violations have persisted, posing a significant challenge to regional stability.
The recent surge in cross-border skirmishes comes nearly four years after India and Pakistan reaffirmed their ceasefire agreement in February 2021. This agreement, brokered between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations, aimed to restore peace along the LoC and prevent unnecessary hostilities.
However, the sharp increase in ceasefire violations, particularly in sensitive areas like the southern Pir Panjal region, has raised concerns about the durability of the agreement. If Pakistan continues to violate the ceasefire, the Indian Army is prepared to take all necessary measures to safeguard national security and maintain stability in the region.
