“We discussed solutions to better protect our people from Russian attacks and strengthen our position on the battlefield,” Zelensky wrote. “We are ready to work as productively as possible to achieve peace.”

Zelensky also hosted U.S. envoy Keith Kellogg in Kyiv and praised their discussions as productive and encouraging. These diplomatic exchanges seem to suggest a coordinated push toward both military strength and diplomatic engagement.

Tariff Threats: Economic Pressure on Russia and Its Allies

In a move aimed at forcing a resolution, Trump announced that the U.S. would impose 100% secondary tariffs on any country continuing to trade with Russia if a peace deal isn’t achieved within 50 days. This would effectively penalize nations like India, which import Russian oil, by levying a 100% tax on any goods they export to the U.S.

Such a policy could severely disrupt global trade dynamics and inflict economic losses on countries still engaged with Moscow. Former Putin aide Sergei Markov suggested the tariff threats signal a retreat from serious peace efforts, while Senator Konstantin Kosachev called it “much ado about nothing.”
