Shubman Gill, the Indian Cricketer, who has been making headlines as India's fifth youngest Test Captain. At the age of 25, he is appointed as the captain of the Indian Test team for the upcoming series against England, succeeding the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) chose Shubman Gill as a captain for test series as Jasprit Bumrah skipped the role to manage his bowling workload. With this captaincy, he has become the fifth youngest captain of India, being older than Pataudi, Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri, and Sachin Tendulkar (youngest test captains).

He is appointed as the captain of the Indian Test team for the ongoing series against England. Recently, on June 20, in the first test at Headingley, Shubman Gill scored a century. He and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also made a century, helped India reach 359 for 3 wickets by the end of Day 1. Their partnership revealed of India's new strength.

Before going into the field for test match, Gill talked to media persons and referred Test Series win as bigger. He said,

"Winning Test Series in England will be bigger than the IPL trophy. After Virat bhai retired, Gautam Ghambir and me had a meeting and decided that I will bat at No. 4. You can't win a test match without taking 20 wickets."

While media persons asked him, "What kind of style of play will be seen under your captaincy." His confident response revealed of the strength the team holds. He said, "You gonna wait till August to see what kind of style of play will be seen."

The new Indian captain has made history by becoming only the second Indian skipper to score centuries in both the first and second Tests of a series in England. His unbeaten 114 on Day 1 at Edgbaston followed his earlier score of 147 at Headingley.

Shubman,s journey from a small town, Fazilka in Punjab to becoming India's Test captain is a testament to his dedication and skill. Having the roots in Fazilka, he has made his town a source of inspiration for aspiring cricketers and fans alike. His rise to National Cricket Glory has turned his remote ancestral village into a symbol of aspiration and hope for young cricketers across the region.

Fazilka is one of the 22 districts of Punjab located in state's Southwestern area, next to the border of Punjab. It is located just 10 km from the Indo-Pak border. And, Shubman Gill hails from a small village Chak Kherewala.

His huge big achievement has made the village bloom with pride and cricket dreams. Young fans see him as their role model and reverb the affectionate nick name 'Shubu Paji' in the streets. His success has inspired many not only in his locality but around the world.

He along with the youngers, have also inspired their parents to encourage cricket in the area. The sarpanch of village, Ranga Ram added that in an honor of Shubman Gill's impact in the area, Fazilka Cricket Association is building a new stadium in Bahmani Wala village. Referring to the village Chak Khereala, he proudly said-

"This place will now be known as India Test Capain's village."

Cricketer Gill has spent much of his early childhood in Jaimal Singh Wala Village of Fazilka before moving to Mohali for the formal training. Several of the times, he has been seen giving credits for his success to the family's support and village's upbringing as formative influences in his life.

His story strongly connects with people in rural Punjab, where there are few cricket facilities but a deep love for the game. In the honour of his achievements, local schools and sports academies even have begun organizing cricket camps and matches.

“Shubman has shown that even from a small border village, one can dream big and make it to the top with dedication and discipline,” said Harjit Singh, a local school principal.

In 2018, when he was adjudged 'Man of the Series' for his performance in the ICC U-19 World Cup in New Zealand, the wonderful wave of happiness was seen when his grandparents; Didar Singh and Gurmeet Kaur celebrated grandson's achievement in village Jaimal Singh Wala Village in Fazilka.

The overjoyed Grandparents were seen dancing proudly while holding their grandson’s childhood bats, a touching reminder of the roots from which his remarkable journey began.

With the drums beating through the village, Fazilka celebrated not just a cricketer, but a symbol of hope; a young man who rose from a small village to national fame.

Sources reveal that the grandparents offer daily prayers for his success. At 88, Didar Singh still takes his daily walks and cares for his plants, proudly speaking about his grandson’s accomplishments. Even today, Gill's family farms at the village, have over 60 acres of land where they work.

Achievements of Shubman Gill

In addition to his leadership role, he has set numerous records. He became the youngest player to score a double century in ODIs, achieving this feat at the age of 23 years and 132 days. Furthermore, he is the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 runs in ODIs, accomplishing this in just 19 innings.

He also made history by becoming the first Indian cricketer to score a century in all three formats at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
