Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: At least 12 People Found Dead at Indian Restaurant in Georgia

In a tragic turn of events, 11 Indian nationals and one Georgian citizen were found dead at a restaurant in Georgia on Monday, December 16, 2024.

Their bodies have been detained from the second floor of a building housing an Indian Restaurant at Ski Resort. In a preliminary report, no marks of violence and forced marks have been observed from the bodies. The generation of gas carbon monoxide is suspected to responsible for the cause of their death.

Notably, these employees were the employees at the restaurant. They were sleeping on the second floor of the building. The use of a generator after a power outage, resulted in generating carbon monoxide, leading to the death of at least 12 people. They were found in an unconscious state.

Meanwhile, the incident has left the families of the deceased in complete shock and grief.

Identified Victims in Georgia

However, one deceased has been identified as Sameer Kumar. He was a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab. He moved to Georgia, six months back. According to his family, Kumar had last conversation with his family on his birthday on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Afterward his family received no information about him.

Another deceased has been identified to be a resident of Jalandhar. He is survived by his wife and two kids. The third victim is Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Moga, Punjab. The last time he contacted his family was on December 12, 2024. Gagandeep went to the country for the betterment of his family.

The fourth victim was a resident of Samana. He was identified as Varinder Singh. He shifted to Georgia a year ago.

Indian Embassy Extends Condolences

The Indian Embassy in Tbilisi has extended its condolences to their families, while sharing the reports about the deceased. It further also ensured to be working in the case. The Embassy is working closely with local authorities to facilitate the prompt repatriation of the mortal remains to India. We are also in contact with the bereaved families and are committed to providing all possible support, the embassy said in a press release.

Congress MP Urges Government Authorities for Action

Meanwhile, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Congress MP from Amritsar has said all the deceased were from Punjab. While reporting the incident, he urged the authorities for the action in the matter.
